Restoration Group

What we do

The role of PSPS Vegetation Group is largely an advisory one.  The Group provides input to Metro Vancouver Parks, West Area on issues related to Park vegetation/habitat and also provides advice and assistance to the groups that are directly involved in removing invasive species or growing and planting native species.

The Vegetation Group meets as needed

to address issues and provide assistance.
        Such meetings will likely occur

        on a 3rd Tuesday of a month.

Why we do it

Pacific Spirit Regional Park contains a diversity of natural forested and other habitats (bog, stream, foreshore, beach, clearings) within an urban setting. It offers ecological resources to natural communities and a diversity of uses in harmony with nature – non-consumptive research, education, interpretive, historical, recreational, volunteer, wellness, spiritual, and aesthetic - to human communities.

The Park is stewarded to conserve, restore, and enhance the health and diversity of the natural resource – its flora, fauna, habitats, and special environments – in a way that respects scientific knowledge and natural processes, ensures public safety, and fosters public awareness, good communication, and a cooperative approach to resource management.

The Vegetation Group is devoted to preserving the ecological integrity of Pacific Spirit Park in perpetuity as our legacy to future generations.

Ecological Integrity

An ecosystem has integrity when it is deemed characteristic for its natural region, including the composition and abundance of native species and biological communities, rates of change, and supporting processes.

In plain language, ecosystems have integrity when they have their native components (plants, animals, and other organisms) and processes (such as growth and reproduction) intact.
